The wider kindness

We have a phrase at St Martin’s – ’the wider kindness’.

It’s a way of describing that divine, golden energy that links us all together. Sometimes we need to draw some compassion from the wider kindness … and sometimes we do something that feeds into it.

St Martin-in-the-Fields is next to Trafalgar Square – a location of history, art, institutions and humanity gathering. Each year we welcome one million people through our doors. They come for prayer and contemplation, for music and a cup of tea, for advice and friendship. They come to be part of the wider kindness.

Being at St Martin’s is such an amazing experience. So many people connecting to each other in so many different ways. They inspire us, push us, and add to all the life that swirls around this place.

Saying yes

We have a history of saying yes to people in need and to confronting the challenges of our time.

Our response has always been a sustainable institution that nurtures creativity and fortifies human relationships. As part of this our Yes Campaign is a dynamic movement helping St Martin’s offer its daily response to a world that can be hard for many people. It finds the money and uplifting support to make things happen.

Shared ground

St Martin’s is more than a building, it’s a centre of ideas and of vibrant, diverse communities. Sharing ground – physically and philosophically – are four charities, a social enterprise, a day centre for people experiencing rough sleeping, stages, musicians in rehearsal rooms, a café, shop, dance floor, chapel and a church beloved for its ever-open door.
